Five Injured By Man ‘Wielding Chainsaw’ In Swiss Town

Police are hunting for a man reportedly wielding a chainsaw who attacked several people in the middle of the street in a Swiss town.

According to local news site Blick, police are hunting for the man after he injured five people in the attack – two severely – in the town of Schaffhausen.

Police have confirmed the attack was not terror related, but did not comment on reports in local media that the man was carrying a chainsaw.

Pedestrians and shop owners were asked by police to evacuate shops and apartments in the immediate location.

Images on social media showed the area cordoned off and numerous police cars on the scene.

A police spokeswoman said officers were alerted to the incident at 10.39am local time (9.39am BST).

She said: “We can’t say exactly what happened at this point.

“We just know that a person wounded several people.”

Schaffhausen is situated on the Swiss border with Germany in the north of the country, about 40km north of Zurich.
