In his bid at further developing the sports and tourism sector in the state, Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State will go into consultation on how to set up a world class polo facility in the state.
The governor disclosed this on Sunday in Kaduna on the sidelines of the closing ceremony of the 2017 Fifth Chukker African Patrons Polo Tournament.
According to the governor who was represented by the Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable (Prince) Matthew Kolawole, setting up such facility would boost the economy of the state.
“This is the first time I am watching the game of polo live and I am really thrilled by the action of the game, the spectators it attracts and its huge tourism potentials,” he said.
Speaking further he said that as s sports lover, the governor motivated the state’s youth athletes to the recently concluded National Youth Games (NYG) at the university of Ilorin, Kwara State, where they won several gold, silver and bronze medals.
“It may also interest you to note that Gus Excellency was an active sportsman who engaged in boxing actively. He is sponsoring the Governor Yahaya Bello National Boxing Championship, we also held the trek for peace to commemorate Nigeria’s 57th Independence Anniversary,” he added.
On how Kogi State feels about the Super Eagles’ qualification for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, he said that it is a welcome development because it further unites the country.
“Personally I am delighted with the Eagles qualification for World Cup,” he added.
The Speaker while answering more questions, revealed that he was an active sportsman who represented his school and state in the game of tennis.
“I am still in sports, but I was a national team player, represented my school and state. I was a coach and Chairman of Kogi Tennis Association for eight years. Presently, I am the chairman of Kogi State Boxing Association,” he added.
