The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP), Kaduna polytechnic chapter has suspended it’s seven weeks strike.
According to a statement signed by Abbas Muhammad, its Publicity Secretary.
It informed that the decision to suspend action was taken after rising from an emergency congress held on October 17.
The union said the strike was suspended as a result of a memorandum of understanding reached with the management and the payment of some outstanding allowances by the new Rector Prof Idris Muhammad Bugaje that were earlier diverted.
Speaking after the Congress, the chapter chairman, Dr aliyu Hassan Ibrahim said the strike was suspended to give the Rector the benefit of doubt to solve the lingering problems of the polytechnic.
He however said the suspension is for a period of six months after which the union will reassess the MOU reached with the management and decide on next line of action.
He commended all those who saw to the success of the strike especially the mass media who he said served as a morale Booster for members and source of enlightenment. He called on the management to ensure full compliance with all agreements reached for continuous industrial peace on the institution.
