The First Baptist Church in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State in a peaceful protest on Sunday April 29 stated that Nigerian Citizens will defend themselves if the President Muhammadu Buhari’s led Federal Government fails to provide them with adequate security within the next one month.
The Church handed down the one month ultimatum during a peaceful protest in honor of Nigerians allegedly being killed in the country.
Clerics, members, children, women, youths and the elderly marched through the Mission and Okere Roads chanting for peace while bearing placards with inscriptions such as,”Nigeria is drifting to Anarchy”, “Where is government?”,”Enough with rhetorics and trade blames”, “restructure Nigeria now” , “Be in control, govern or reaign”,”life is sacred!keep the sanctity of life”,stop the killings in Nigeria”, “End the river of blood flowing in Nigeria”,”Killers and sponsors will face God’s judgement”, “release Leah Sharibu”,”release the remaining Chibok girls and others in captivity”,”defend our territorial integrity” and “Protect lives and properties of Nigerians”
The Pastor in Charge of the Church,Rev.(Dr.) Justin.C.Okoroji Jnr who led the protest stated that the President Muhammadu Buhari’s Government has failed the Nigerian people.
“We are giving the Government mandate from now to democracy of May,if they fail to provide us with Security,we will secure ourselves.”
“If they fail to provide us with security, we have no option than to protect ourselves. Thus far,Government has failed.
“All over Nigeria, there’s river of blood flowing everywhere. People are slaughtered like rats. Cows are more valuable than human lives. Is this a kingdom of cows or a kingdom of humans?
“This is Nigeria. Our President,I want to be bold to address him. Let him listen.
“I hear people blaming the Service Chiefs. They say Service Chiefs should resign. I feel differently.
“The President is the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces. If the Service Chiefs are not performing, that is to say the President is not performing. There’s so much rhetoric’s. There’s so much blame games. Women are raped, farm crops are destroyed, people are burnt alive in their homes, the Government is so nonchalant. They feel so much comfortable. They are thinking towards 2019.
Rev. Okoroji also warned that there maybe no 2019 if the issues on ground are not addressed.
According to Rev. Okoroji,”They’ve to address the issues on ground. There’s so much killings. People are taken into captive in their own father’s land. It’s a disgrace of a Nation.
“They began by telling us accommodate your neighbors. They’ve changed accommodate your neighbors to tell us that Fulani herdsmen are not Nigerians. It’s an insult. What is the President doing? The Service Chiefs, what are they doing that our national integrity is so much besieged by Nigerians and kidnapped and carried under captivity in their own land?
“Furthermore,we are demanding that Leah Sharibu be released. Those that captured her,I don’t want to go into the drama of Dapchi but the drama unfolding now,the girls have been released. Why are they still holding Leah Sharibu? She should be released. Every other Chibok girls should be released and every other citizen of Nigeria should be released. The Government should do the needful by protecting lives and properties.
“I hereby tell the President and the Commander of the Armed Forces,he should move to Benue State. Abuja is too comfortable. He should move with his Service Chiefs to Benue State. We don’t want to wake up any other day to read about loss of lives. We are giving them time. At least, one month is enough.
“What is happening in Nigeria cannot happen anywhere. There should be intelligence gathering. They should do the needful and protect lives and properties of Nigerians. Enough is enough of the shedding of innocent blood.”
