The Deputy Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Honourable John Audu Kwaturu of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), may have been defeated by main opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in his Kwaturu Ward at the local government elections held in the area on Saturday May 12, 2018.
According to results made available to AUTHENTIC News Daily by agents from the ward, the APC garnered 2,118 votes in the councillorship contest, while PDP polled 3,551 in the ward located in Kachia Local Government Area.
For the chairmanship result from Kwaturu Ward, APC scored 1,801 votes, while PDP got 3,933.
As at time of filing this report at about 7:48am on Sunday morning, official announcement of the results were still being awaited.
Meanwhile, after casting his vote at his polling unit, the Deputy Speaker had expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the polls.
He told newsmen that he was sure of his party’s victory, but voters from the background interrupted by shouting that the area was for PDP.
Governor Nasir el-Rufai through the state’s Independent Electoral Commission (KADSIECOM) made history through the introduction of the electronic voting machine to Nigeria, which many electorates said would bring an end to rigging of polls.
