The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and commercial tricycle association in Kaduna have partnered to device ways of checking criminal activities using tricycles.

The FRSC Head of Operations, Umar Galadunci said on Thursday during a stakeholders meeting held with the association in Kaduna.

He  advised Commercial Tricycle Operators Association in the state on the need to use code numbers for easy identification.

He said that the code would help in reducing the use of tricycles to commit crimes in the state.

“As part of our mandate to regulate and sanitise motorcycle users, criminal issues are coming up in the state, in-which they are using the tricycle to perpetrate.

“We feel that with members of the association having code number on their tricycle, we will be able to identify and curb such activities,’’ he said.

He said that a time frame of one month would be given to them to comply with obtaining the code.

“We don’t intend to kill their business but we want the best for them. We need these restrictions to track down criminals.

“It has been a source of concern to us as many residents are falling victims of such act that is why we want to regulate their activities and secure people of the state,’’ Galadunci said.

He said the association should come up with Code and routes where riders would be operating for easy identification and reduction of crime.

“You can also set up a task force that will assist you to check and sanction members or ask them to pay fine,’’ he said.

Also speaking the Kaduna State Chairman of the association, Ibrahim Daura assured of the association compliance.

He said the association had such arrangements before now as they observed that some of the tricycle users were visitors and not properly registered members.

“We have this in mind already and we are working towards it, since we have five zones in the state.

“We will ensure total compliance and we plead with our security agencies that anytime they arrest a defaulter, they should send him to us for proper registration and zoning.

“Some of them are visitors who did not register with us and those are the kind of people that can be used for criminal activities without proper identification,’’ he explained.
