Beyond the budgeting for child spacing, there is the need to track the expenditures to ensure they meet the targets they are meant for.
Kaduna State Team Leader, Nigerian Urban Reproductive Health Initiatives (NURHI), Kabir Abdullahi expressed this at the opening of the Step-down Training on Budget Monitoring, Analysis and Scorecard System in Kaduna on Wednesday.
“Budgeting and expenditure gives life to anything the government is doing. Once budget is robust, it shows the particular issue got priority, ” he said.
Abdullahi stressed that in view of that, budget tracking is important in ensuring that funds voted are used for what they are voted for.
” In child birth spacing technical team, it is important to track the expenditures, ” he said.
On the importance of the workshop, he explained that it would go a long way in training on ways to advocate for better budget, as well as track the funds.
” How do we analyze our budget to see whether the quantum of budget is sufficient? These are some of the things we would be learning here, ” he said.
The two-day workshop which ends on Thursday May 24, has as its objectives, to strengthen the skills of the state’s advocacy and budget task team and to create a core team of trainers to stimulate the process of institutionalising of family planning budget.
The training is bringing together key stakeholders including health professionals, civil society groups and the media.
It is organized by NURHI in collaboration with and hosted by the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (SPHCDA).
