Management of New Nigerian Newspapers has been urged to as a matter of urgency mount pressure on the Pension Transition Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) to fast track the payment of pension arrears of workers and pensioners, to pave way for the restructuring of the company.
The plea was made by the Kaduna state council Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Comrade Adamu Yusuf, when he led a team of journalists to pay a condolence visit to the premises of the company over the death of the Managing Director, Malam Tukur Abdulrahman.
Yusuf said it has become necessary owing to the hardships faced by pensioners and workers, adding that some have died waiting in vain, a condition he described as unfortunate.
“Please see what you can do to fast track these payments, people are dying. Talk to Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate, PTAD and all connected to the payments,” he reiterated.
Speaking on behalf of the management, acting Managing Director, Mr. M. A Ibrahim, assured that the company is working tirelessly at making sure the payments are effectively made by working with every agency and people involved.
According to him, “we are doing our best and working round the clock with the relevant authorities and agencies, and we believe the issue will be resolved soon.”
The NUJ chairman was accompanied by Secretary of the Kaduna Council, Dauda Idris Doka, Veteran Tajudeen Ajibade and others. Management of New Nigerian Newspapers included, Yusuf Musa, Manager MPPCL/Production Manager, Safiya Yakubu, Internal Auditor, Mairo B. Umar, Welfare Manager and Amina Sa’idu (Mrs).
