The Uvwie Local Government Council today says it will set up a Special Task Force for the clean up of Effurun Market.
In a chat with newsmen during a Special Sanitation exercise, the Uvwie Council Chairman Hon. Tega Ramson Onoyake said the special task force is the only solution to the market when fully operational.
While noting that members of the task force will be drawn from the various communities within the market, Hon. Onoyake said the Council not tolerate indiscriminate dumping of refuse in the market as well as along the PT I road.
“What we are trying to do by his grace before the end of the week, we are going to put a special task force in place that will take care of the Effurun market.
” There is no way I can be coming out everyday because of the Effurun market. So, I have made up my mind trying to set up a special task force that will comprise persons from various Communities within the market.”
The Council boss stated that the goods of defaulters will be seized and donated to orphanage homes.
He said the Council embarked on the Special Sanitation because the time frame for the monthly exercise is not enough.
Hon. Onoyake explained that the special sanitation exercise will last within the next four days.
Hon. Onoyake pointed out that special sanitation started from the Otokutu bridge down to B +B in Ekpan stressing,”We are taking it from the boundary between Uvwie and Udu Local Government and the boundary between Uvwie and Warri South Local Government.”
Hon. Onoyake said if the environment is clean, it will be better for the people health wise because Uvwie is the gateway if one is travelling from Port-Harcourt and Benin-City.
Hon. Onoyake also stated that the Uvwie Local Government Council will sustain the sanitation exercise with the help of its casual workers.
