The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has said that the impressive standard of play and quality of players discovered in previous editions has informed its continuous sponsorship of the NCC Tennis Cup.
Team Leader of NCC’s entourage to the fourth edition, Alhaji Yusuf Abubakar Argungu expressed this while fielding questions from newsmen on Saturday at the competition taking place in Kaduna.
“We are impressed with standard of play. Awareness of participation improving, key factors that have informed continuity of tournament,” he said.
Argungu said that NCC is further motivated by the  increasing spread and participation of the competition, which has further witnessed an increase in this edition, in several areas, including a wider media coverage.
Commenting on what happens to the talents being discovered, he revealed that a tab is being kept on them.
“We have been in touch with all the participants and a structure put in place, that’s why this year there is more integration between the professional and amateur,” he added.
When asked how much was spent on this year’s edition, he said that it is unquantifiable.
“A lot has been put in place, though I don’t have the figure, lots of resources, human and material invested, it is encouraging that success is been  recorded,” he submitted.
Two teams, Kaduna based Team Ofikwu and Plateau side, Team Simon Bako Lalong are slugging it out in Kaduna.
Some notable dignitaries spotted at the venue were, Yusuf Abubakar Argungu (Leader of Delegation NCC), Bashir Bello (Senior Manager Public Affairs NCC), Yohanna Waziri (Asst Director Technical, Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, Kaduna State) and Alkassim Umar (Head of Compliance Monitoring NCC).
