Kaduna Polo Centenary: Brilliant Kaduna El-Amin Trounce Rubicon To Again, Lift Prestigious Georgian Cup

Kaduna El-Amin team led by its patron, Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida have emerged champions of the Georgian Cup at the 2018 Kaduna Polo Club Centenary Tournament

They achieved the feat after beating their opponents, Guards Brigade Rubicon
led by Minister of State For Aviation, Alhaji Hadi Sirika in a historic final played on Saturday October 20.

In the first Chukka, Rubicon took the lead and drew the first blood. El-Amin drew level seconds after, before Rubicon took the lead again. El-Amin however, equalised in the last few seconds to the end of the chukka, ending it 2-2.

The second Chukka started with a keen contest as both struggled to take the lead. Efforts of El-Amin paid of as they put two unreplied goals past Rubicon ending the Chukka 4-2.

As action resumed in the third Chukka, El-Amin again, scored first to consolidate their lead with three goals. Shortly after, they scored another, to further widen the goal margin. Yet again, they added another goal as efforts of Rubicon to pull any goals back proved abortive, ending that Chukka, 7-2.

Hopes of Rubicon to come back into the game were almost dashed as the fourth Chukka commenced but were first to score, to put them back into the game. They added one more goal, to end the Chukka 7-4 as it turned out barren for El-Amin.

The fifth Chukka witnessed more fireworks from both teams but El-Amin were first to score, to double the lead against their opponents. Again, El-Amin another and yet others, to end the Chukka 11-4.

Sixth Chukka, two goals scored by Rubicon could not swing the game in their favour as it ended 11-8.

The Georgian Cup is the most prestigious polo trophy in Africa.
