The Kaduna Polo Club Centenary Tournament on Sunday ended in a colourful closing ceremony that attracted several dignitaries.
The first ever 20-goal match between a selected Team A and Team B for the Centenary Cup, saw both teams exhibit brilliant skills.
Team B won the game 3-2, after the game was shortened to four Chukkas of three minutes each, resulting from the 24-hour curfew imposed by the Kaduna State Government.
Top dignitaries spotted at the closing ceremony included Alhaji Ahmed Joda, several top emirs and top retired and serving military officers.
Trophies were presented to winners of El-Amin Cup, Imani Trophy and winners of the most prestigious polo trophy in Africa, the Georgian Cup to El-Amin Polo Team.
In an interview with newsmen, patron of El-Amin, Alhaji Mohammed Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida said that they thank Almighty Allah for giving them privilege to play at the tournament.
He said that El-Amin as a group is into several activities, which is not limited to playing of polo.
“We play polo, we also sponsor polo. We played in Dubai and South Africa so we are going international,” he added.
On their victory over highly rated Guards Brigade Rubicon team to win for a record 14th time the Georgian Cup, he said they were happy.
“Its a 100 years for Kaduna Polo we are happy we participated in the centenary tournament, we are also happy we won the Georgian Cup for the 14th time” he added.
The tournament which started on October 13, witnessed sponsorship worth over N150 million. It also raked in support for renovation of the Ahmadu Yakubu Polo Club House, which was wearing a new look ahead of the tournament.
