*says INEC using double standards on card readers

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Kaduna State chapter has thanked the electorate in the state for massively voting the party in the March 9 gubernatorial elections, while warning the electoral umpire, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against any illegalities during collation and announcement of results.
The state party chairman, Honourable Felix Hassan Hyat expressed this on Sunday during a press briefing at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Kaduna State Council secretariat.
He said that so far, from the results collated at polling units across the state, their candidate, Honourable Isa Ashiru was doing well, calking on INEC to maintain neutrality in ensuring the real winner is declared.
He said that they have reports that card readers were not used in Northern part of Kaduna State.
“In Zaria LGA there was public purchase of votes in from of security agencies. We have cases of snatching of ballot boxes in Chikun, Giwa, Birnin Gwari. In Birnin Gwari it was shameful that three ballot boxes were snatched.
“As we are talking, Kagarko and Santa LGA under siege, collation centres cordoned off by security forces all in the bid to change results in favour of ruling party.
“We have situations whereby results are changed in Igabi LGA. We have results from all our agents.
“As far as PDP is concerned, we thank our supporters and people of Kaduna State for supporting us the way they did two weeks ago,” he said.
Hyat stressed that they will only accept results that will originate from polling units.
“We call on security agencies to call their operatives together because democracy under threat by activities of security agents on field, doing the bidding of the ruling party.
“In a situation where security agencies take sides and a referee takes side, the game cannot be free and fair. I call on our supporters to be law abiding. We are ready to use lawful means in protecting their mandate.
“We are briefing people on the situation but of anything comes out contrary to what is from polling stations, we would call for cancellation,” he added.
He recalled that the presidential elections, in his LGA, Bishini Ward, was cancelled for non use of card readers and wondered why same should not apply to areas in Kaduna North Senatorial zone.
“INEC is adopting double standards on card readers,” he alleged.
On the voter apathy witnessed during the polls, he attributed it to intimidation.
“Voter apathy was as a result of what happened after the presidential polls. There was high deployment of military personnel. We expect that when there is deployment, they should have been confined to a section until there is problem before called upon,” he suggested.
