Media practitioners have been charged to form a central force that will ease the quest of accessing data and information regarding budget. Deputy Director Budget, Planning and Budget Commission Kaduna State, Dr. Idris Suleiman gave the advise while delivering a paper at a two-day Budget Monitoring Analysis and Score Card System Training which began in Kaduna on Thursday March 14, 2019. “Media should be united and have a central force to help it have success in finding out what it needs to know about government,” he said.Suleiman, who was responding to a question from a participant, further said that it was also important to create a positive relationship with those with such credible information. “Not only assembly can engage in oversight functions in finding out if budgets are audited annually or not. “What you need to do, start engaging with them, you need to create a positive relationship with them before the time you need to get information required. “You cannot just come to my private house and ask me how much is my budget for me and family? But when you build a relationship with me over time, you can use a manner to get it out of me,” he stressed. Speaking further, he said that such refusal to hand out informs information at times is as a result of systematic bottlenecks over time. “There is a need to develop a relationship before seeking information. You can go and get it administratively whoever you walk into his office to request such information, would think you are trying to witch hunt him. This is because the system has not been working for decades. When this administration in Kaduna State came on board, it came up with reforms and we are refusing to do the right thing.
