Islamic scholar, Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi has appealed to Muslim parents to continue presenting their children to the attendants during the immunization against polio.
Sheikh Bauchi who said he had been a member of a committee working against the spread of the wild polio virus, spoke when Kaduna State Coordinator of Journalists Initiative on Immunization Against Polio [JAP], Lawal Dogara led other members of JAP to break fast with the Islamic scholar in his house.
Sheikh Bauchi expressed delight with the visit and urged the journalists to continue in their advocacy and fight against polio.
He prayed for continued peace and stability among Nigerians, and condemned the recent quit notice given to the Igbo by an Arewa group.
He also sued for moderation on the part of Igbo leaders and their Arewa counterparts, pointing out that now is the time to promote unity.
In his remarks, Lawal A. Dogara, the Kaduna State Coordinator of Journalists Initiative on Immunization Against Polio [JAP], thanked the Sheikh for supporting the fight against polio and appealed to other Muslim leaders to join the crusade against the scourge.
He said only two cases of polio were found in the past few years in the country, adding that together, Nigerians were capable of eradicating the disease in the near future.
Dogara explained that it was a duty on parents to make sure their children were immunized against such killer diseases so that the children will grow with their full limbs, potential and become productive members of the larger society.
A former chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists ( NUJ) Kaduna State Council, Hassan Mahmood Ibrahim, the Sardaunan Hayin Banki, commended Sheikh Bauchi for being at the forefront of propagating health issues in his sermons, and urged Muslim parents to abide by such wise counsel and always allow their children to be immunized against polio.
