The General Manager of Rivers United, Okey Kpaluku has attributed the team’s poor performance last season to several issues like involvement in the continent and psychological effect of losing in the continent.
“Our involvement in continental matches affected us,we were playing three matches in a week atimes, also the boys were focused on the continent ,immediately we lost, they became relaxed. Psychologically they were not motivated for the league, some of them came to just play in the continent, so we struggled to escape relegation.
“For our poor performance in the CAF champions league, the football calender affected us, we had played few matches when the continent started,” he disclosed.
On preparation for the coming season, Okey Kpaluku said the team would be restructured.
“We will restructure our team. Some unproductive players will go, number of the squad would be looked into, we will consult stake holders, bring in success hungry players,” he said.
He added that the team has learnt from it’s success story in the past and failure last season and knows what to do.
In another development, the club’s chief scout, Bright Ogude has released the names of three new players whom the club has had personal discussion with in preparation for the new season.
The players are Usule Martins a striker who played for DSS, Niger Tornadoes and Katsina United. Ganda Samuel, a right full back with stint at Boro United, ,DSS, Kogi United, Crown FC and Remo Stars and Nwadike Okechukwu also a striker and has played for Ocean Boys, Bayelsa United, Heartland and Jomo Cosmos in South Africa.
He said the club will leave no stone unturned to get the best legs to achieve it’s aims coming season.
