Kaduna besides having quality sports facilities, also is blessed with hospitable people and a sports loving governor, hence the decision to hold the One Service, One Medal (OSOM) Games in the city.
Director Grassroots Sports Development, Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Dr. Ademola Are advanced these reasons while fielding questions from newsmen at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna on the sidelines of a meeting of some stakeholders of the OSOM Games on Wednesday.
He said that the hospitality of Kaduna people in unrivalled and the support of Governor Nasir el-Rufai to sports development could not be overlooked, leading to Kaduna hosting the games for the second time in three years.
Are said that the games seeking to discovers talents that would fly Nigeria’s flag at the next Commonwealth Games.
He explained that several sporting events including athletics, boxing, squash, table tennis, wrestling and golf would be taking place.
The Director said that preparations have been in top gear and service chiefs have been visited and they assured of participation.
According to him, the games will be featuring personnel of military and para military formations in the country.
Speaking further, he said that as part of activities that would take place, secondary schools invitational relay would take place.
“Apart from the participants, we are inviting schools for invitational relays, so that the students can also watch the participants and take them as role models,” he said.
The games is expected to commence on November 26 to December 3rd, while the invitational will hold on December 2.
