Following days of tension in Benue State, North Central Nigeria, resulting from killing of 78 locals allegedly by Fulani militia, crisis has broken out in Makurdi, the state capital.
Eye witnesses around Wurukum part of the city said that they were attacked by Hausa youth.
They alleged that the crisis started around 12 noon on Saturday January 13, 2018.
It is not clear what led to the fresh onslaught, but another source said it may have been triggered by reprisal attacks from some Tiv youth on unsuspecting Hausa people.
As at time of filing this report, details were still sketchy, but some that escaped the attack in Wurukum shared pictures of battered vehicles.
AUTHENTIC News Daily gathered that the Wurukum market was also attacked by youth suspected to be of Hausa origin.
If security agencies fail to stop this development, Nigeria’s unity may be at stake.
