In its bid at ensuring that the economy of Nigeria is diversified through enhanced farming activities, the Nigerian Senate on Wednesday, ensured the smooth passage of the amendment of Nigeria’s Agricultural Lending Scheme.
When amended, the bill will re-establish proper lending mechanisms that will ensure that Nigerian farmers have access to the funds that they need from financial institutions.
“Today, the Senate’s bill to amend Nigeria’s Agricultural Lending Scheme passed its second reading,” Senate President, Abubakar Bukola Saraki informed.
He said that the bill for the amendment was timely because it would ensure long-term facilties are granted farmers.
“In order to meet our long-term commitments to our farmers, Nigeria must ensure that we work to make borrowing for our farmers easier. Doing this will help diversify our economy, make food more accessible across the country, and will also create more jobs for our youths,” he added.
