Disappointed by their bottom finish at the recently concluded Zenith Basketball play-offs at the Shehu Musa Indoor Sports Hall, a player of Nasarawa Amazons blamed their poor performance on lack of motivation, poor welfare provided players by the state government.
The player, Blessing Richard expressed this while speaking exclusively to AUTHENTIC News Daily after the competition.
She said that her team only managed to win one out of five games played because they were demoralised.
“We performed badly because we were not feeding well and we were also provided a very uncomfortable accomodation.
“They lodged us around the swimmingpool area of the Murtala Mohammed Square, where mosquitoes feasted on our blood at will. When we were coming, we were thinking they would lodge us in a hotel but weredisappointed, which made our morale to be very low,” she disclosed.
Blessing said that they were only fed twice a day throughout the seven-day competition, and were yet to receive any allowances.
“No allowances have been paid to us, though they promised, but they are yet to pay us. It is supposed to be N2,000 daily but they gave us only N1,000. They are owing us much money,” she emphasized.
Speaking further, she said that even their transport fares to Kaduna were yet to be reinbursed as at the time the interview was granted.
When asked why they still remained with the team in spite of the unfair treatment, she said they were still there because of the love of the game.
“I have not left for another team because I don’t get information of when they are doing screening. I chose to keep playing for Nasarawa Amazons just to sell myself out to a better team, because I get much playing time with them,” she emphasized.
