The National Secretariat of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) is in its desperation to replace the Kaduna State chairman of the party, Evangelist Mordecai Ibrahim may create an ethno-religious crisis, not only in the party, but Kaduna State entirely.
This was expressed in a statement jointly signed by ADP Kaduna State chairman and publicity secretary, Evangelist Mordecai Ibrahim and Andrew Fadason respectively.
“We believe that the implications of the action of the National Secretariat include:
Creating religious and ethnic tensions not only within ADP but Kaduna State as a whole.
Throwing over-board the structure that has painstakingly been put in place’ across the 23 LGAs by the State Chairman.
–Displaying lack of seriousness and immaturity of the ADP before the public in Kaduna State AT THE VERY BEGINNING of the party’s existence in the state.
Importing a culture of IMPOSITION and IMPUNITY which are the trade-marks of a leading party in Nigeria,” it stated.
The party in the state said that its attention has been drawn to statements credited to the National Secretariat of the party, principal among the statement is the ‘alleged re-deployment of the state Chairman, Evangelist Mordecai Sunday Ibrahim’.
“This is most unfortunate because proper communication has not been effected. The statement signed by Dr. James Okoroma purports that there is a leadership crisis in Kaduna State ADP.
“To the best of our knowledge there is no crisis. If there is, it is because the National Secretariat wants to cause one by imposing someone else other than Evang. Mordecai on ethnic and religious grounds. It is clear that this action has been instigated by a card carrying member of the All People Congress, APC, Kaduna state, Alhaji Tijani Ramalan. Alhaji Ramalan has clearly stated that he does not intend to leave the APC but would rather impose his Personal Assistant and staff of his organization, Liberty Radio and Television, Engr. Balarabe Bello. He wants Engr. Balarabe to hold forth for him while he slugs it out with Governor Nasir El-Rufai in the APC,” it explained.
The leadership of the ADP in Kaduna State said that it suspects that there is a carefully worked out plan to impose Engr. Balarabe and thereby destroy the party.
“That is, to replace a Christian Chairman with a Muslim Chairman. This is because there are no legitimate grounds for any change since Evang. Mordecai has done no wrong. Founding members of the party have retained their positions which were indicated in the registration documents of the INEC. It is suspicious that while the National Secretariat is telling Rivers State Chairman Mr. Chizi Nweomasila to revert to the INEC papers position, Evang. Mordecai is being removed from the same position without consultation,” it said.
It further explained that they have grounds for suspicions.
“These include: At the last NEC, State Chairmen were directed not to rent offices on behalf of the party; that the National Secretariat would do that. Surprisingly, the same Secretariat has approved not only for Engr. Balarabe to rent an office in Kaduna, but even print posters.
“The signed statement said Engr. Balarabe was approved as State Chairman based on nomination. The obvious questions are: Who nominated him? Where? On consultation with who?
“The National Secretary of ADP issued signed official letters of INTRODUCTION on 20th June, 2017 to Commissioner of Police, Director of DSS and Commander of NSCDC in Kaduna State. The letters said Evang. Mordecai was the AUTHENTIC State Chairman. What has Evang. Mordecai done to warrant being removed on social media?” Kaduna ADP outlined.
The leadership of Kaduna ADP therefore, urged the National Secretariat to rescind its decision in the interest of the party.
“Contrary to this, insistence would negatively impact on the party. We believe that a fair and just solution to the problem, not crisis, is to ALLOW and ENCOURAGE Evang. Mordecai Sunday Ibrahim to continue the good job he has started. It is fair and just because he and others have expended so much resources as well as energy to structure the party in the state. It will also be fair to appoint Engr. Balarabe to a National position rather than IMPOSE him on the state,” it submitted.
