Travellers that plied the Kaduna-Abuja Highway were on Sunday November 12, 2017 forced to spend hours stranded as youth from Sabin Gaya community, about 16 kilometres from Kaduna metropolis blocked the dual carriage way.
Eye witnesses said that they counted not less than four hours at a spot as a result of the youth who were said to be aggrieved over the killing of a member of the community.
Vehicles in the ensuing gridlock were stranded for stretch of kilometres and it took intervention of law enforcement agencies to clear the road.
When contacted on phone, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Aliyu Mukhtar explained that the youth were aggrieved after armed bandits killed one of their vigilante members.
“It was a wrong way to express their grievances by blocking the road because they denied other road users their rights,” he said.
The Kaduna PPRO said that the Assistant Commissioner of Police and the Commissioner of Mobile Policemen were immediately drafted to the scene and they controlled the situation, resulting to free flow of traffic.
