Sports: 2017 Was Superlative For Kaduna, 2018 Would Be Better – Commissioner

The year 2017 was a very successful one for Kaduna State in sporting activities, and there is a work plan to consolidate on that.

Commissioner of Youth Sports and Culture, Honourable Daniel Danauta expressed this during a press briefing on Friday in Kaduna.

“On the whole therefore, the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture had a superlatively successful outing in the year 2017.

“Consequently, the Ministry has put in place a strategic workplan to cash on the aforementioned successes and improve on them, with the kind and continuous support of the able and performing Governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir Ahmad El-Rufai,” he said.

According to him, some of the successes recorded in 2017 include Kada Hockey team representing Nigeria in the African Cup for Club Championship, Nairabi, Kenya in January where they won bronze after finishing third position.

“Jacinta Okorie, Kaduna Cyclist represented Nigeria at the African Continental Cycling Championship held in Cairo, Egypt. APRIL and won
1 Bronze medal.

“National Cricket U-17 League, Abuja APRIL/MAY 1 Gold medal (male) while eight male players  and seven female were  invited to the National teams.

Speaking further, he said that at the KBUN – GYM FIGHT FACTORY KICK Boxing Tournament, Togo in APRIL, 1 Gold and two silver medals were won.

“29th Edition of C.B.N Open championship, Lagos, JULY 1 – Silver medal

“Inter-clubs Open kick-Boxing Championship, Lagos AUGUST 1  Gold, two silver medals,” he added.

The commissioner said that at the 2017 U-17 National Youth Games, Ilorin in September, Kaduna won six gold, four silver and seven bronze medals, making a total of 18, which is an improvement from previous records.

He also listed the construction of Lere Township Stadium, construction and Rehabilitation of Kachia Township Stadium, construction and Rehabilitation, Birnin Gwari Township Stadium, rehabilitation of Dogorawa Township Stadium and rehabilitation of Kaduna Township Stadium, Kaduna as part of achievements in 2017.

“It should be noted that there is great improvement in terms of performances in Sports Department as seen in National Youth Games with seven Medals in 2016 to eighteen medals in 2017.”

For the Score Card of  2018, he said that already, several achievements have been recordeIn conclusionCricket Championship, Lagos JANUARY 1 – silver medal (female) 1 – silver medal (male) – Blessing Nwobodo emerged (most reliable and best player) – His Excellency awarded a plaque as the best Governor that has been sponsoring Cricket Team.

“Kada Hockey Team represented Nigeria at the African Club Championship, Ghana JANUARY 4TH Position

“U-17 players of Kada Hockey Team (male) represented Nigeria in the West African 5-aside championship, Ghana MARCH 1 – Gold medal,”

Other achievements listed included National Hockey U–17 5–aside championship, Kaduna in May, where male and female teams won gold and silver respectively.

“You are therefore justified to have a good expectation of the Ministry rendering better services and giving a good account of the confidence reposed in us.

“In conclusion, I want to sincerely appreciate our dear Governor, Malam Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai because all these huge successes would not have been recorded without his tremendous support and confidence repose in us,” he concluded.
