Pandemonium broke out at a music concert and award presentation to some prominent Nigerians, which was put together by One Voice Foundation in collaboration with Arewa Music House.
The comfy atmosphere that characterized the occasion was aborted immediately after Governor Nasir el-Rufai’s Commissioner for Commerce, Industry and Tourism openly backed his boss’ choice of a Muslim as his running mate.
The event which took place at Ecwa 1 Hausa in Kafanchan drew highly respected personalities across the country. Notable among them was the fearless former Minister of Petroleum, Femi Fani Kayode, Senator Danjuma Laah, Member representing Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency, Hon. Shehu Nicholas Garba amongst several others.
The rancour started when the commissioner remarked that,” Southern Kaduna did not give El-Rufai full support that was why he picked a Muslim as his running mate.”
She added, “Southern Kaduna people have been posting fictitious things on the internet which further blighted the relationship between Southern Kaduna people and the governor and culminated to the underdevelopment of the region.”
A section of the congregation who were visibly angry with the commissioner’s comment disrupted her speech and vowed to beat her to stupor if she attempted to sell the candidature of el-Rufai to them.
The irate youths and women sieged the venue and waited patiently for her to be attacked but, she was shielded by the security agents at the venue and the Jema’a Local Government Chairman, Hon. Peter Averik.
In a twist of event, the aggrieved youths and women mistaken the wife of late Ibrahim Yakowa, Mrs. Amina Yakowa for the commissioner and attacked her car but, she narrowly escaped pelted stones aimed at her.
