The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has announced the recruitment of 15,577 ad hoc staff to participate in the forthcoming general election.
Addressing journalists in Gusau, Zamfara state, capital, Resident Electoral Commissioner, Dr. Asmau Maikudi said the ad hoc staff comprises of lecturers, students, staff of the tertiary institutions and corps members.
According to her, ad hoc staff would be engaged as Returning and collation officers as well as supervisory and presiding officers.
Asmau further explained that, the ad hoc staff would be made to take oath for them to be just and fair in the discharge of their duties.
She however, warned ad hoc staff to strictly adhere to the election rules and regulations as INEC would not condone any act of compromise in the conduct of election.
According to her, already, non sensitive materials have been dispatched to the INEC offices in the local government areas.
“We have provided generators, jackets and other materials to the INEC offices”, She added.
She also, said INEC has identified areas with security challenge, with a view to change to secured areas.
REC urged politicians and electorate across the state to cooperate with INEC to achieve a hitch free election. ENDs
