The Head Teacher of Aileru Primary School in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, Mrs. Patience Mene on Thursday raised alarm that pupils of the school now imitate how to wrap and smoke Indian hemp from hoodlums who allegedly looted PVC (Ceiling), ceiling fans and other facilities in the school.
Mene made the assertion in a chat with newsmen in Warri on Thursday.
Mene said hoodlums allegedly attack and terrorize the school on a daily basis saying,”We are not safe in this school.”
“When we come in the morning, we see them(hoodlums) around smoking Indian hemp.
“It is not a very good thing because the children of ours copy from them. When they are even in the class, they imitate how the hoodlums smoke.
“We try to tell them that they should not copy from them that it can make them go mad.
” It is not a good thing. So, they should stop it. They should always emulate good things.”
Mene who lamented over the sorry state of the school noted that there are lot of problems in the school which includes, flooding, fencing and insecurity.
According to Mene, “There is no gate. The school is not fenced. We also have problem of sign board. There is no signboard.
” We need signboard to be fixed at strategic positions so that people will know that there is a school here. People don’t know that there is a school a school here because it is a hidden place.”
While noting that the school has a total of 160 pupils, Mene said the flooding problem is responsible for the withdrawal of pupils from the school by parents.
Mene appealed to the Delta State Government to assist by making the school environment conducive for teaching and learning.
The Assistant HeadTeacher of the School, Mrs. Caroline Ezeachi corroborated the claims of the Headteacher just as she begged for assistance from the Delta State Government.
Our Correspondent who went round the school compound reports that the hoodlums did not only vandalized and stole facilities from  the school, they also defecate in the classrooms.
The roofs in some of the classrooms have blown off with residents around the school dumping refuse indiscriminately there.
Some of the classrooms have also been abandoned by the pupils who now receive lessons at Igbudu Primary School opposite Delta Line in Warri.
