The Methodist football club and the Yerima Football Club both on Thursday emerged winners of the 2nd edition of the Kaduna State Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) U- 10 and U-13 Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) football competition respectively.
The finals of the competition which was played at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium and organized by Kaduna state chapter of the Youth Sport Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) saw the young lads displayed football talents that if well harnessed will make them future Yekini’s of Nigeria that will make the country proud.
Although both categories of the matches ended up in penalty shoot outs after goalless draw at regulation time, all the teams played impressively.
Methodist FC emerged winners of the U-10 category after defeating their Kakuri Academy counterparts in a penalty shootout that ended 3:2.
In the U-13 category, Yerima football club went home with the trophy as winners of the 2019 edition of the competition after walloping their opponents Methodist FC 4:1 in another penalty shoot out.
In the semi finals played earlier, Kakuri Academy defeated SSS FC 3:0 to qualify for the final of the U-10 category while Methodist FC defeated Arewa FC 5:4 after regulation time of goalless draw to also qualify for the finals of the U-13.
In his words of encouragement to all the teams that participated in the competition, Kaduna State SWAN Chairman, Isaiah Benjamin commended the players and urged them to also face their academics while still doing sports.
He commended the YSFON, Kaduna State chapter under the leadership of Abdulrazak Usman for all their concerted efforts at developing sports at the grass roots and urged them to sustain the efforts.
