A leadership crisis has rocked the Warri South Council Legislative Arm in Delta State.
The crisis which began on Tuesday, the leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Kingsley Edafiajebre and the Majority leader, Hon. Lebi Yonwuren and the Chief Whip, Hon. Daniel Aliduwere equally impeached following the crisis.
The leader of the legislative arm was impeached for allegedly passing a “Vote of Confidence” on the Council’s Chairman, Hon (Dr.) Michael Tidi at his private residence outside the Legislative Chambers amongst other misconducts levelled against him.
Hon.Jude Onovughe Igherebuo moved the motion for the impeachment of the trio during (yesterdays) Tuesday plenary.
The motion for the impeachment of the trio was promptly seconded by Hon. Egbe Omasan.
The trio were immediately suspended and replaced indefinitely by the house.
They are to appear before a disciplinary panel to determine further sanction against them.
Hon. Ogheneochuko Eyekpimi representing Ighogbadu Ward who served the notice of impeachment in a motion of urgent public importance said,“the motion is in pursuant to section 44 ( 2 and 2C) of the Delta State Local Government (Amendment) law 2013 which provides for the removal from office of the Leader or deputy leader on grounds of misconduct by not less than two-third majority of members”.
The new leader, Hon. Jude Igherebuo was immediately sworn-in alongside the Majority leader and the Chief Whip after a keenly contested and well conducted election by all members present.
In his acceptance speech, Hon. Jude Igherebuo representing Okumagba 1, thanked the legislators for electing him just as he promised to run an open door policy that would take everyone along, even as he pledged to work in harmony with the Council’s Chairman to enable him succeed in the onerous task to take the Warri South Council to greater heights.
Meanwhile, the embattled leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Kingsley Edafiajebre has insisted that he remains the leader of the legislature.
He alleged that the office of the Clerk was burgled and the “mace” which is symbol of authority allegedly stolen by some disgruntled elements.
