Though both teams were powered by foreign international stars, Abuja Guards Brigade Rubicon came from behind to emerge winners of the First Bank sponsored Georgian Cup in a game watched by several dignitaries and an unprecedented crowd.
Powered by Cryspo Mckenzie and Caston Moore for Lintex and Sylvester Donovan and Manuel Crespo for Rubicon, the game ended 7-6 in favour of Rubicon.
It was an explosive 100th Anniversary of the Georgian Cup final between Lintex Agad vs Abuja Guards Rubicon at the closing of the 2019 edition of the Kaduna International Polo Tournament on Sunday.
The first chukka ended 1-0. Sylvester Donovan on resumption of the second chukka, opened scoring for Rubicon, but Lintax leveled up at the end of the second chukka.
Lintex opened scoring in the commencement of the third chukka, courtesy of Bashir Dantata.
The third Chukka ended 3-4.
On resumption of the fourth chukka, Cryspo McKenzie scored first to increase the tally of Lintex to 3-5.
Few minutes later, Caxton Moore scored, to set up a three-goal lead for Lintex.
Fourth chukka ended ended 3-6, fifth chukka ended 4-6
Rubicon gathered steam in the he sixth and final chukka to score three goals, thereby emerging winners.
In an interview with newsmen after the game, patron of Rubicon, Senator Hadi Sirika expressed delight with the win.
Notable dignitaries spotted at the final included Executive Governor of Katsina State, Rt. Honourable Aminu Bello Masari, Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Abubakar, former top polo star, Dawule Baba, President Kaduna Polo Club, Alhaji Suleiman Abubakar (Walin Keffi), Keffi Ponys founder, Honourable Wadada and Alhaji Bashir Dantata.
