Pursuant to campaign against breast cancer, the Nigerian Breweries Plc on Monday partnered Gwamna Awan General Hospital, Kakuri, for public enlightenment in understanding the menace more by the populace.
The Brewery Manager, Mr. Abbey Ajayi who was represented by the Public Affairs Manager, North, Mr. Danjuma John-Ekele, stressed on the importance of creating awareness concerning the scourge of breast cancer as early detection helps.
“We have been in Kaduna for over 54years with a rich partnership history especially in our host communities and we feel the pains of what the women go through as a result of breast cancer.
” Information and knowledge of the basic elements of the ailment effectively increases the possibility to management its impact on our women folks. To underscore the importance of this day, we deployed three buses in strategic places in partnership with the traditional heads to get more women to the venue”.
“The Nigerian Breweries Plc in Winning with Nigerian focus, understands that there is no sufficient knowledge on the causes and treatment of breast cancer, therefore, early detection of the ailment remains the cornerstone of breast cancer control and management.” Ekele stressed
“To further improve services in the hospital, we have also concluded arrangements to build an emergency unit at the Gwamna Awan Hospital for prompt medical attention” Ekele added.
In his talk to the women, the guest lecturer, the head O&G of the hospital, Dr. Moroof Suleiman, stated that there are about 1.38 million new cases and 458 000 deaths worldwide from breast cancer each year and Nigeria accounts for about 50,000 of such deaths. Breast cancer is by far the most common cancer in women worldwide, both in the developed and developing countries”, he said.
Also speaking, the Acting Medical Director, Gwamna Awan General Hospital, Dr. Maryam Dangaru, appreciated Nigerian Breweries Plc for the opportunity to partner in this year’s Breast Cancer Awareness Program. She commended the nation’s foremost Brewing company as the most responsible and caring community partner as it has been impacting on the lives of the community and the state in general.
A team of over 20 medical personnel were on ground to attend to over 300 women from Makera, Kakuri, Nasarawa, Trikania, Barnawa, Sabo and Kudenda areas.
This event was also one of two events by the Brewing giant who partnered the Fifth Chukker/Polo Country Club on its Breast Cancer awareness campaign as part of their October/November Championship.
