The Warri Area Commander of the Nigerian Police Force, ACP Muhammed Muktar Garba has ordered the Divisional Police Officers, DPO’s as well as Heads of Departments, HOD’s under his watch to embark on “aggressive” raiding and patrols of black spots within Warri and its environs
CSP Mohammed Garba vowed to tackle armed robbery, kidnapping, drug peddling and other related crimes in Warri and its environs during this year ember months to make everywhere safe for residents in the state.
The police boss while fielding questions from journalists in his office on Wednesday afternoon in Warri said.
”I have prepared for the embar months. I have sent out very serious message to my DPOs and my men who have already carried out raiding of criminals hideouts in Warri metropolis. Criminals will not have peace with me untill they all relocate from my territory.’’ He said.
Mr. Hohammed said, ”aggressive raiding has commenced at various towns, blacksport and we need the public to partner with the police to give useful information about criminal activities as their identities will be protected.
”I have advised my men the (Policemen) not to molest and extort money from commuters and other road users.
‘‘Do not extort money from road users. Do not also search personal gadgets of phones and laptops of young men who go about their legitimate business.
”Policemen have no rights to search the mobile phones and laptops of the members of the public.
‘‘Unless, a case of crime is established against a person with proper search warrant. Police do not have the right to stop and carry out search on laptops and phones of innocent youths. Cases of extortion, if reported to me, the individuals or team will be punished according to police law’’ he warned.
“The crime wave is drastically down a bit. We raided black spots. There is aggressive patrol. Aggressive raiding and many people have been charged to Court.
We are here to serve the public. We are not masters. We are servants of the people.
“Am appealing with the members of the public to come with useful information to the police.
“I have sent series of signals to DPO’s. I have sent series of signals to HOD’s that raiding should continue. Patrol should continue but not to extort money from the public.”
