To rid Nigeria of impunity and entrench good governance and accountability, there must first be the strengthening and insulation of institutions from everything capable of weakening them.
CEO House of Justice/Principal Partner Mive Legals, Ballason Gloria Mabieam expressed this in her remarks at the 2019 House of Justice Summit & Banquet held in Kaduna on Friday November 29, 2019.
“The weaponization of laws, the reality of insecurity, the attack on free speech and the press and the increasing constricted accountability forum demands that people across nations and continents galvanize to impeach impunity and entrench accountability and good governance.
“This requires the strengthening and insulation of institutions from everything capable of weakening them. It means that in a democracy the Executive should formulate policies, implement laws passed by the legislature and take the lead in obeying court orders,” she said.
Speaking further, she said the summit is out to raise Nigerians who would see justice from the point of the creed of the laws and not from political angles.
“We are here to vigorously push the agenda and recruit converts to justice according to the creed of the law and not in subservience to political allegiance.
“We are here to ensure that the legislature, executive and judiciary operate jointly co-habit but independently and optimally function because the best description of tyranny is the accumulation of all powers in one hand,” she said.
Ballason declared that the time was right for Nigeria and Africa to be free from shackles.
“We are here to break Nigeria and Africa from the shackles that gag free press and free speech because the facts and truths need to emerge no matter whose ox is gored,” she stressed.
“In a nut shell, we are here to bequeath and democratize House of Justice maxim of insisting on the force of law and not the law of force. This is because we partner with you in law as in life to make justice your right!” She added.
