Delta Government Reiterates Commitment To Eradicate Youth Unemployment

The Delta State Government on Wednesday January 8, 2020 has reiterated its commitment to eradicate youth unemployment and restiveness.

The government began the 5th round of the Skills Training and Entrepreneurship Programme (STEP) across the state with over 8,800 youths as beneficiaries.

The chief job creation officer, governor’s office Asaba, Prof, Eric Eboh kick started the orientation workshop for 2019/2020 step trainees at the governors annex Edjeba, In Warri South Local Government Area

Prof, Eboh said, ”the programme is one the flagship job creation models of the state government,  since 2015 to eradicate youths unemployment and youth restiveness.

”The goal of the programme is to train, equip, established and mentor unemployed youths, graduates and school leavers, with the right mindset, practice -oriented skills, entrepreneurial abilities and resources to become self-employed business owners.

”It is one of the strategys for tackling the scourge of youth unemployment. The training runs in three phases,  phase 1 is the Orientation and Personal Effectiveness  (OPET)

”Phase 11 is the Learning and Acquisitions of Practice -Oriented Income Yielding Skills. And the phase 111 is the Entrepreneurship and Business Management training  (EBMT).

”The training will be trained in skills such as ”Audio – visual service, for three months. Carpentry and joinery, for six months. Catering and confectionery, for four-months. Cosmetology  (skin and facials care), for four-month. Plumbing, for six-months. POP, creed – making and painting, three-months. Production of cleaning agent’s, three- months.

”Others are, Electrical and solar works, eight-months. Decoration and event management,  three-months. Fashion design and textile design, seven-months. Hair dressing and makeover,  including braiding, four-months. Information and technology services, six-months”.

A beneficiary of the programme Miss,  Chioma Okafor said, ”thanks to God for bringing this programme, it is just a dream come true. Am very happy today to be part of the beneficiaries”.
