Hong Ward have emerged champions of the Engineer Musa Nimrod U-20 Hong Local Government Area Soccer championship.
They lifted the prestigious trophy of the Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) competition after beating Kwarhi Ward by a lone goal in the well attended final on Tuesday.
In the third place match, losers in the semi finals, Thilbang and Daksiri wards battled in an epic clash that saw Daksiri emerge winners, after beating Thilbang 3-1.
In the individual award winners from the competition, Coach Atiku Abubakar Adamu from Hong emerged the Coach of the Championship.
Goalkeeper of the Championship Award was clinched by Saddam Bello of Uba Ward, while Highest Goalscorer went to Usaku Justine, also of champions Hong Ward.
After a brilliant performance, Usaku Justine of Hong Ward was indisputably, adjudged the Most Valuable Player.
High point of the closing ceremony was the presentation of trophies and awards to those who distinguished themselves.
In a phone interview with our correspondent on Wednesday, National Organising Secretary of YSFON, Malami Abdulrazak Usman described the competition as a huge success.
“It was very successful with several hitherto hidden talents putting up spectacular display of skills.
” We are grateful to the sponsor, Engineer Musa Nimrod, who is the President of Nigeria Volleyball Federation (NVBF).
“We are also grateful to the Chairman of Hong LGA and other management team of the council for their support,” he added.
