In its quest at ensuring the development of sports from the grassroots, the Kaduna State Government has concluded plans of developing facilities in 32 schools across the state.
SA Media to the Commissioner of Sports Development, Professor Kabiru Mato, Ismaila Lere disclosed this during a media briefing at the Media Centre, Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna on Thursday January 30, 2020.
“We will develop facilities in 32 schools across the state. Schools identified and we are looking forward to procure.
“Schools like Sardauna Memorial College, Queen Amina College and Barewa College were given priority in the selection, with three per zone. Ministry of Education and Ministry of Sports dividing the responsibility,” he added.
He explained that there was deficit of sports infrastructure in schools across the state,prompting the government to make the move.
“This is a pilot scheme, it will be extended to other schools subsequently,” he assured.
He said they intend to renovate football fields, athletics tracks, volleyball and basketball courts in some schools, while others will have tennis courts invested on as well.
