*commissioners assures annual hosting of event

Sabon Tasha Zone left no one in doubt that they were better prepared as they trounced other zones by picking 10 gold, five silver and three bronze medals to top the table and emerge champions of the Kaduna State Inter Secondary Schools Sports Competition.
At a colourful closing ceremony on Saturday, their closest rivals, Rigachikun Zone could garner only four gold, two silver and two bronze medals.
Third position went to Kafanchan Zone who picked three good, two silver and two bronze medals.
Godogodo Zone finished fourth with two gold, four silver and six bronze medals.
At the fifth spot, Kaduna Zone was able to get one gold and one bronze medal, with Kachia and Anchau Zones tying for the sixth position, after winning one gold medal apiece.
Another tie was recorded for the eight position as Zonkwa and Zaria Zones as they picked three silver, three bronze medals each.
Tenth position went to Giwa Zone, who rallied round to two silver, five bronze medals, while Lere and Birnin Gwari zones picked a bronze medal each to settle at a tie on the 11th spot.
Earlier in a dramatic football match final, Anchau Zone had come from behind to beat Sabon Tasha Zone.
Sabon Tasha took the lead in the first half and consolidated on it to end the first 2-0.
Anchau Zone came back better organised in the second half, pulling one back six minutes to the end of the match and levelling up in the last minute of regulation time to the delight of their fans.
In the resulting penalty shoot out, Anchau failed to miss any, while Sabon Tasha players played two above the cross bar, ending the pulsating game 4-1.
Kaduna State Commissioner of Sports Development, Professor Kabiru Mato while fielding questions from newsmen after the presentation of trophies, assured that the competition would be an annual event.
He praised the high level of skills exhibited by all the participants and was equally excited by the success of the competition.
Also speaking, Chairman of Ikara Local Government Area, Honourable Ibrahim Salihu Sadik, from where the football gold medalists, Anchau is located, praised his boys for coming from behind to win the match.
“We were not expecting anything less from the team, in view of the quality of players and our investments on them,” he said.
