The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has appealed to the British Government to release former Petroleum Minister, Allison Diezani to face alleged stealing if over $2.5bn from Nigeria.
The acting Chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu made the appeal at an interactive session with the media in Kaduna on Monday, ahead of the passing out parade of EFCC personnel at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna on Tuesday.
This year alone, I was in London, I met people in respect of releasing her. We did the investigations together, I always insist that they should extradite those we request.
“Return her back, bring back the looters to face the law,” he said.
He explained that those people are cheating Nigerians by holding on to their loots abroad.
“This woman has stolen so much money, bring her back.
“She can only live in London where she gets protection. She moved not less than $2.5bn dollars,” he declared.
Magu emphasized that Diezani and her followers must return her to Nigeria.
“It is like they get protection in Europe,” he added.
On the rising menace of Internet Fraudsters, he said there are plans to rehabilitate them.
“We are putting in a lot of efforts in arresting Internet Fraudsters.
“We are thinking of rehabilitating them. Some don’t even still believe Yahoo Yahoo is a crime.
“They are young, so that they can become useful citizens in future,” he said.
On the allegations that the commission goes after thieves.
“We only go after people who have access to the treasury.
“People who go after public funds. Public funds can be private or public sector.
“Even NGOs like NUJ, if someone loots the find, invite us and we would go after them,” he assured.
