All is set for a successful opening ceremony of the 6th Kaduna State Sports Festival, Scheduled for the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna on Monday March 2.
Addressing a press conference on Saturday at board room of the ministry at Murtala Square, Commissioner of Sports Development, Professor Kabir Mato, assured of a colourful opening ceremony, which will have the state’s Deputy Governor, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe serve as the Special Guest of Honour.
“The stage is set, all is set for the festival to commence on Monday, while the final comes up on March 7.
“The Deputy Governor Dr. Hadiza Balarabe has given her words to be physically present as Special Guest of Honour to declare festival open.
“For the closing ceremony, we are expecting His Excellency, Malam Nasir el-Rufai,” he said.
Represented by his SA Media, Ismaila Lere, the Commissioner said that the event suffered postponement due to technical issues which they have surmounted.
“The 23 LGAs requested more time to assemble their teams and being our partners, we obliged.
“Closing for submission of team list and entry is Sunday,” he said.
On the number of athletes besides officials expected to participate, he said they are expecting no fewer than 2,000.
“Volleyball has the highest entry with thirteen teams, excluding wild cards, football 12, excluding wild cards,” he said.
He informed that the heats for 100m male and female will hold at the opening ceremony on Monday, as well as 10,000m final.
It was gathered that Peugeot Automobile Nigeria (PAN), as well as the 23 local government areas are supporting the state government in hosting the event.
