6th Kaduna Sports Festival Begins, Commissioner Assures It Would Henceforth Be Held Annually

    Henceforth, the Kaduna State Sports Festival would be held annually.

    The Kaduna State Commissioner, Ministry of Sports Development, Professor Kabir Mato disclosed this while delivering his welcome address at the opening ceremony of the 6th Kaduna State Sports Festival at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna on Monday, March 2, 2020.

    “We intend to make the Kaduna State Sports Festival an annual event. That is when we would make impact and get desired results,” he said.

    Prof Mato said the present administration is poised at ensuring Kaduna State takes its rightful space in sports nationally and internationally.

    “Kaduna has been centre of sports Development from colonial times, but sports collapsed due to negligence.

    “This Government prepared to revive it. His Excellency, Governor Nasir el-Rufai has given us the mandates to revive sports and he is giving us the necessary support,” he announced.

    The Commissioner explained that just weeks ago, they held the school sports, which has not been held for 24 years.

    On the upcoming National Sports Festival (NSF), he said that the state qualified in 13 team sports ahead of other North West states.

    “Kaduna will be taking a large contingent to Benin for NSF and we shall make remarkable presence and come out tops,” he assured.

    While appreciating the tremendous support the governor is giving to sports, he however, appealed for more support.

    “Your Excellency let me on behalf of the Ministry like Oliver Twist, ask for more.

    “Making Kaduna great again, is a responsibility your government has taken, it is a responsibility that your government is achieving,” he added.

    Professor Mato charged the athletes to be of good behavior all through the festival and wished them a pleasant stay in Kaduna.

    “Thank you Local Government chairmen that are here, those that could not make it, I believe they will participate next year,” he said.
