Badminton: Kaduna YSFON Vows To Make Sport Popular At Grassroots

Youth Sports Federation of Nigeria (YSFON) Kaduna State has vowed to make the game of badminton popular at the grassroots.

YSFON Secretary Kaduna State, Malam AbdulRasaq Usman gave the assurance, while fielding questions from newsmen at the closing ceremony of the Alhaji Mohammed Maina U-17  Boys and Girls Badminton Championship  organised by the federation, which ended on Saturday March 14,  2020.
He said that they further plan to  be running a seminar for schools games masters to boost the game in the grassroots.

Also speaking, Vice President Badminton Federation of Nigeria, Alhaji Mohammed Maina who the competition was organised in his honour,  told the participants to hold on to what they have learnt.

He said the competition was a pilot scheme, which would be improved upon subsequently.

Maina, who is also the chairman of Badminton Association in Kaduna State, assured that the elite athletes of Kaduna State are prepared and ready to do the state proud at the forthcoming National Sports Festival (NSF).

At the end of the two-day tournament, Suleiman Usman emerged overall winner, claiming the gold medal for the singles category.

Naziru Usman finished runner-up and went home with the silver.

Bronze medal was claimed by Isaac Zoka  and Auwal Abba who tied  at the third spot.

In the doubles category, Suleiman/Auwal won the gold.
Silver medal went to Nazir Usman/Abba Auwal and joint bronze medals went to Azizat Sabiu/Terdo Victoria Agabo and Isaac Zoka/Moses Iliya.

High point of the closing ceremony was the presentation of medals and badminton racquets to all winners.
