The philanthropist said that his expectations at the grand finale of the event would instill the virtues of love and a serve as a unifying factor to unite the younger generations.
He explained that the choice of the tournament was to encourage young people to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship in their daily interactions with one another, as that would promote togetherness in their various communities.
“Every community will have peace if we imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship, because it is only in sports you will suffer defeat but yet congratulate your opponent without any rancour.
Adding, “Sports is an avenue for talented young Nigerians to showcase their talents. Several international players become known through sport,s” Wilson said.
According to him, the football tournament was a follow up to his 2019 campaign promises which he said will contribute meaningfully to youth restiveness in their localities.
“What I am doing today is part of my campaign promises even though I have lost the election. I am also looking at sponsoring other charitable gestures that will impact on the lives of my people.”
The APC stalwart disclosed that they will keep a tab on players who are good in defense or midfield to find a way of linking them to clubs in the local leagues from where they can launch internationally.
“The likes of Ronaldo, Messi who have made their mark in football also started from local leagues in their different communities. We also believe that they will break barriers to excel,”
Hon. Boniface Garba, a former House of Representatives Member (Jema’a/Sanga) who declared the competition open, said the tournament will cut across all the zones in Jema’a and Sanga Local Government Areas, culminating in a final cup between Sanga and Jema’a local government areas.
