A former Permanent Secretary, Ebonyi State Ministry of Health and Rector Model Institute of Health, Science and Technology Iboko in Izzi LGA, Ebonyi State, Dr.John O.Nkwuda, has during the 2nd matriculation ceremony held at the school auditorium on Friday described technology based courses as panacea to improving health sector in the country.
The Public Health Professional and retired Lecturer at Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo,(A-E FUNAI), said that considering the lack of human resources in para medical field especially Technicians among institutions situated in the South East region that MIHEST was established to close the gap in medical profession.
He noted that various institutions in the zone lacked Technicians which handled technology based health cases which according to him is one of the most sort professional in health sector and encouraged parents to enroll their children in the field for the betterment of the society.
He pointed out that for his passion in education, having served as principal and brain behind the establishment of Ebonyi State School of Health Mgbo, that he deemed it necessary to contribute his experiences after retirement to impact on the lives of the younger generation who will graduate to become employers of labour in health sector.
According to him,” Having served the Government where i held different positions in various health sectors and as trained professional, I feel it’s necessary for me to contribute my quota in the health sector which I did by tracing those technology based courses not found in our health institutions within the state and even the south East and established MIHEST.
“The institution which is today a dream come true started with few students but today matriculated with over 60 students, and still counting because we hope to get more areas accreditated very soon.
“Our Target is to train Technicians who will close gap of manpower in most needed areas in our hospitals like we already have Radiology department to train Technicians on medical image, Pharmacy Technicians, Dispensing Opticians who are trained in the area of the eyes and others such as medical laboratory department, Dental Technology, Community Health and Environmental Health that we are in the process of securing accreditations.
The retired Lecturer commended the state government for it’s infrastructural development and called for the improvement of public schools through proper equipping them with learning material and recruitment of manpower to filled the gap of retired personnels.
He advised that more teachers are needed as to handle some subjects such as physics and chemistry which most available personnels are not trained in the field.
The Secretary Ebonyi State House of Assembly Civil Service Commission and Mgbalukwu Community Chairman,Comrade Louis Uguru, lauded the Rector for ensuring his dream for a better society did not die in him, he pointed out that the school would help reduce unemployment in the area even as the graduands would finish to be self reliant.
He appreciated the former Permanent Secretary for his contributions in educational sector and called matriculants, and the General public to take advantage of the available courses in the school to promote health sector and self improvement.
On his part, the principal Iboko Secondary School,Izzi, Mr. Christopher Nwoba, called parents to take advantage of the school by enrolling their children in health courses that will give them job after graduation as most profession chosen by students have ended them abandoning their certificate for handiwork after spending years in school.
The school Principal charged the matriculants to be law abiding while they build reputable character during their studies, revealing that the best way to pass well in school is by being time conscious as they adopt reading habit and regular monitoring of their GP.
In her good will message, com.jeniffer Adibe-Nwafor, Special Assistant to Ebonyi State Governor on Inter Party and Labour Matters, eulogized the Rector for the successful matriculation ceremony and advised the students to shun social vices such as Cultism and exam malpractice as the state government has issued severe warning against it’s practice in the state.
