Umahi Announces First Covid-19 Case In Ebonyi



Ebonyi State Governor, Engr. David Umahi on Sunday announced the first CoronaVirus, COVID-19 index case involving a commercial motorist with his three passengers.

Gov. Umahi made this known in a video, stating that the victim is an Ukawu man, from Onicha LGA of the state, aged 31 who earn a living as a commercial motor driver, carrying food items from Ore in Ondo State to neighbouring states but was trapped few days on the way coming back to Ebonyi where he was confirmed positive.

According to Umahi, the driver runs hired purchase Sienna bus and had visited the state twice between April 1st and the date of his detention that led to his medical screening at the state stadium where medical experts confirmed him to be a carrier.

He noted that the Sienna driver was in Ebonyi State on 1st April, thereafter, returned to his place of business and on his way back to the state accosted three Ebonyians who were stranded on the way due to the lockdown and assisted them with mind to be paid once they get to their place before their arrest.

He further explained that the man beats two local government boundaries but was detained when he arrived at Ohaozara local government from where he was taken to police station and,inorder to enforce the state order on the Scourge Covid-19,was transferred to the stadium for test.

He revealed that the medical experts in the place confirmed that the alleged driver tested positive that evening but the three passengers result were negative but he insisted for another test the next morning while the result remained positive.

However, efforts to get the victims name was not fruitful as NCDC is yet to give their update.
