The National Rescue Movement (NRM), has issued a strong notice of intent to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the opposition Party the All Progressive Party (APC), in Edo State that it intends to capture power in the gubernatorial election of September this year.
In a statement sent to journalists on September 20, 2020, the party urged the ruling PDP to stop campaigning for the gubnatorial election as Godwin Obaseki, the flag bearer of the party already stands disqualified going by the court cases against him, according to Shedrach Oka, Director Media and Communications of NRM Governorship Campaign Council.
“The National Rescue Movement, NRM, wishes to urge the candidate of the party to stop campaigning in Edo and start packing his luggages out of the government immediately.
Mr.Oka further explained that, going by the content of the suit.
“It is pretty obvious that the PDP candidate in the Edo polls, has a lot of allegations against him and these are all credible allegations which border on certificate forgery, it is in this vein that we are urging Mr. Obaseki to move out of the Governor’s lodge quietly with respect or face disgrace .
In a separate suit filed against them by the APC and Williams, the plaintiffs want the court to stop Godwin Obaseki and Philip Shaibu from participating in the September 19 governorship election in Edo State for allegedly lying on oath and submitting false documents to INEC to aid their qualifications in the forthcoming election.
According to them, the alleged offences of the defendants run contrary to the provisions of the Electoral Act 2010, as amended, and the punishment is automatic disqualification.
Turning his lenses on the APC, Mr. Oka noted that the APC candidate for the Edo gubnatorial poll, Pastor Ize Iyamu has a huge case of corruption against him at a Federal High Court and his association with the disgraced APC former National Chairman, Adams Oshiomole has makes him a laughing stock and distasteful to the electorates in the state.
“I am sure that Pastor Iyamu knows that there is no way that the Edo people would vote for someone whom Adams Oshiomole the former chairman of Apc once called a ” thief”, even the pastor also knows this, he added.
“Let me remind the Pastor that courts are also waiting to disgrace him by pronouncing him guilty in the corrupt cases which he has,” Oka said.
The NRM Campaign Spokesperson then charged the electorates in Edo not vote for recircled, old and remote controlled candidates adding that , the candidate of the NRM, Mr Stevie Nash Ozono is a young vibrant man with a track record of getting things done Mr Oka said.
“My appeal to our great people of Edo is to come out and elect a more pragmatic, a more vibrant man with a history of getting things done. That man is Stevie Nash Ozono. Oka further added,
“Stevie Nash ‘s agenda for Edo include programmes that would create wealth and eradicate poverty, massive job creation in the agricultural and ICT sectors, human capital and infrastructural development as well as the promotion of social welfare and governance for all citizens”.
