The Athletics Federation of NIgeria (AFN) President, Honourable Olamide George has said that he is excited with the success of the maiden Kaduna Marathon.
He expressed this while fielding questions from newsmen after the presentation of medals and cheques to winners at the Murtala Square on Saturday November 21, 2020.
“I am impressed with what I am seeing here. It was a huge success. The youth came out to participate and cheer the runners,” he said.
Honourable George praised the Kaduna State Government for organising the marathon, which he said, will inspire Nigerians.
Speaking further, he also commended sponsors for supporting the event.
The half marathon which is the first of its kind in Nigeria, with three components of 5km, 10km and 21km featured 27 elite athletes from 27 countries.
Some of the notable sponsors are GAC Motors, United Bank for Africa (UBA), Olam, GIS Transport and TIGER Group.
The winner of the elite category for male and female categories smiled to the banks with $10,000 dollars each.
Runners up of both categories got $7,000 each, while the make and female third position winners each got cheques of $5,000.
Those from the Nigerian category in the 21km for male and female categories each got N3m, N2m, N1.5m respectively for first, second and third positions.
