The Chairman of the Delta State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Michael Ikeogwu, has reiterated the need for proper funding of the state Orientation Bureau for greater effects in the mindset reorientation of residents, particular youths in the state.
Comrade Ikeogwu stated this when he led members of his exco and some journalists in the state to pay a courtesy visit to the bureau in Asaba, the state capital.
He commended the Director General (DG) of the bureau for his untiring efforts at not only bridging the gap between the state government and the public, but deepening the robust reorientation of residents against criminality and moral vices in the state, adding that there was the urgent need to unify the reorientation of residents in the state from the present noticeable practice of many MDAs engaging in the exercise.
The labour leader said that he was in the bureau to introduce members of his new exco to the DG and seek for partnership of the bureau in the agenda setting function of journalists in the state, adding that the bureau is a key establishment in the actualisation of the Stronger Delta vision of the Okowa led Administration, just as he disclosed two key committees had been put in place by the council of the union to moderate the ethical conducts of journalists in the state.
Responding, the DG of the bureau, Eugene Azuka Uzum Esq, congratulated Comrade Ikeogwu and members of his exco for their victory at the recently conducted election of the union in the state, saying that the election was fierce but free, fair and credible in its conduct.
The orientation boss implored journalists in the state to help create favourable environment towards a successful conduct of the upcoming local government election in the state through their reportages, adding that the NUJ is a critical stakeholder in information management.
He said that the bureau would design a workable plan to partner the union in the onerous task of mindset reorientation of residents, just as he implored the leadership of the union to critically moderate the activities of journalists towards proper reportage of issues and events in the state.
