The 58-man contingent from North West Zone has arrived Abuja for the National Principal’s Cup final, billed for Abuja from March 27 to 30.
The contingent comprises of 33 from Kaduna State, 13 from other states, 10 officials from zone and2 drivers, took off from the Ahmadu Bello Stadium (ABS), Kaduna on Saturday morning.
Addressing the contingent before departure, the North West Coordinator, Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, Alhaji Abdullahi Idris charged the athletes to go for gold.
“The North West Zone is one to beat, it is a challenge we pose to other zones,” he said.
The zonal Coordinator said the zone has high hopes and aspirations.
“It is our desire that the talents discovered will replace aging national athletes and go ahead and do the nation proud.
In an interview with our correspondent, he commended the Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir el-Rufai for his tremendous support to the zonal office.
“I want to specifically thank His Excellency, Malam Nasir el-Rufai and the Commissioner of Sports Development of Kaduna State, Professor Kabiru Mato for their immense support.
“Once we go with our requests, it is always approved,” he added.
He said the zone will be participating in all three events at the Principal’s Cup, namely, athletics, football and table tennis.
