Widows from Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State have threatened to set their All Progressives Congress (APC) membership registeration cards ablaze, following the disqualification of their candidate, Honourable Ekene Abubakar Adams from participating in the party’s primaries billed for Saturday May 8, 2021.
They expressed this at a gathering organised by Honourable Ekene to thank them for their support.
Speaking on thier behalf, Theresa Jonathan from Yelwa Ward said Ekene’s disqualification came to them as a rude shock which they are yet to recover from.
“We will burn our APC membership cards, if Honourable Ekene Abubakar Adams is not allowed to contest in the primaries,” they threatened.
They insisted that they remain with Ekene and know no other candidate.
Also expressing sadness, Yahaya Tabat Friday from Sabon Tasha Ward insisted that Ekene did not fail the screening, wondering why they said he failed the test.
“He scored 62 points, so there is no way he would have failed.
“The 10 people that scored him gave him total of 625 points which if divided by 10 is 62.5%
“I am urging Governor el-Rufai to investigate the committee’s decision. It is an injustice and we are seeking the governor’s intervention,” he appealed.
For Zainab Toyin Oluwole Musa (Nasarawa Ward Campaign Woman Leader Ekene Adams), said with the disqualification of Ekene, they don’t have a candidate.
“The widows spoke on behalf of her colleagues but I am speaking on behalf of myself and family and friends, we are opting out of the APC Chairmanship Primaries.
“I don’t have a Chairmanship Candidate, I would only do councillorship.
“What Ekene has done in terms of empowerment, not even the Kaduna State Governor has done.
“Even if he dies today, he is fulfilled because his name will remain as someone who has touched lives,” she added.
In his response, Honourable Ekene appealed to his supporters to take the decision in good faith.
“His Excellency, Malam Nasir el-Rufai is the best, and will forever remain the best Governor in Nigeria.
“It is not the governor that did this, it is only people around him doing this. I don’t want to mention names but I want to tell you all that they have done me well. APC and the people fighting me have done me well.
“I will say it again that I am.the best among over 100 that did the test. I am the only one that presented what I did for my people. APC has offended me. I have been in CPC since 2011 and have never received a contract, yet I have been helping my people. Without being in govt, I can still help,” he said.
Speaking further, he advised the APC to work towards the furure.
“Let me warn APC, election is beyond LG Polls. Before one year, the same Mr. Non Suitable will still be before you. I remain in APC. I don’t need any favours from government.
“If I go to court, I will stop this election because the constitution does not give room for what they did to me. I am a supporter of el-Rufai and nobody should criticise him. If we don’t get the type of el-Rufai to rule NIgeria, we are in trouble.
“He has set a standard, he sacked workers because they failed to get minimum higher qualifications, he said if I become LG Chairman with School Cert, it will be a slap on his face.
“The NIgerian Constitution does not bar me from contesting with School Cert.
“This policy el-Rufai is taking, tomorrow, you all will enjoy it. He is laying a foundation. You might be hurt, I might be hurt, but it is the best for me. Eighty per cent of LG chairmen cannot address crowd like I am doing, it is written for them.
“We should salute the courage of our Governor and I want five gbosas to His Excellency, Malam Nasir el-Rufai from everyone in this house,” he ordered.
Chairman of Ekene Campaign Team, Dauda Abdulkadir Kujama appealed to the widows not to carry out the threat of burning their APC membership cards.
He advised them to keep same, reminding them that they may need it in the future when Ekene decides to contest for another position.
