The brilliant performance exhibited by the soldiers from Nigeria at international peace keeping missions across the world and the successes they register makes them to rank among the best not only in Africa, but the entire world, President of the Senate/Chairman of the National Assembly, Abubakar Bukola Saraki has said.
In a statement to mark the Armed Forces Remembrance Day, he added that the efforts of the Fallen Heroes are the reasons why Nigeria exists today.
“Your effort at restoring peace in the troubled zones most especially will not go unappreciated. Nigeria soldiers ranks among the best in Africa and the world as their performance on global tpeace keeping missions have demonstrated.
“Today, I join all Nigerians, particularly members of the Armed Forces, as our dear nation celebrate the selflessness of our fallen heroes. Their ultimate sacrifice in defence of our greater tomorrow will always be remembered. Nigerians are ever appreciative of the numerous sacrifices they made to their fatherland,” he said.
Saraki praised the bravery of the soldiers currently battling the dreaded Boko Haram in the North East.
“I join you all in paying tribute to our heroes past, who put their lives on the line for us to live in peace. My thoughts and prayers, as always, are with our soldiers out there in the cold fighting to recover Baga and other towns being threatened by the terrorists in the North-east zone.
“Let us, therefore, use this moment to not only pray and support the military and their families, but also fulfil the numerous promises made in the past to look after their welfare.
“The debt we owe them is immeasurable. Let us renew our commitment to honour our veterans as they are the reason we enjoy the benefits of a big, strong and united nation today,” he said.
He assured all Nigerians that as part of their duty, the National Assembly will continue to champion reforms that will improve on the welfare of our military men and women as enshrined in the constitution.
