RSG hails media over Lassa Fever awareness

    Rivers State Deputy Governor, Dr. (Mrs) Ipalibo Harry Banigo welcoming the Acting Zonal Director, NTA Port Harcourt, Mr. Sunday Ibrahim Sawntong during a courtesy visit by the Management of the Network Service Centre in Government House Port Harcourt.
    The Rivers State Government has expressed satisfaction with the media industry in the state over the level of sensitization and awareness put in public domain concerning the Lassa Fever menace.
    According to a statement made available, signed by the Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Paul Damgbor, Deputy Governor of Rivers State Dr. (Mrs) Ipalibo Harry Banigo stated this on Thursday when the Management team of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) Port Harcourt Network Centre paid her a courtesy visit in Government House, Port Harcourt.
    Dr. Banigo said the awareness created in various programmes in both Electronic and print Media had helped in reducing the spread of the Lassa Fever in the State.
    She particularly lauded the Management of NTA for the sustained relationship that exists between the station and the State Government which had enabled the Media to discharge its duties of informing, educating and entertaining the public.
    Dr. Banigo noted that the State Government was determined to fulfilling its electioneering promises to the people of Rivers State in spite of its lean resources occasioned by dwindling Oil prices in the International market and advised the Media to assist in disseminating information on Government programmes and policies to the masses.
    She promised that the State Government will continue to partner the NTA to achieve set objectives and promised to forward their requests to the Ministry of Information and Communications for necessary action, while wishing the outgoing Zonal Director, Mr. Sawntong a blissful retirement.
    Earlier, the Acting Zonal Director, Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) Port Harcourt Network Centre, Mr. Sunday Sawntong commended the State Government on the giant strides recorded within a short period in office towards improving the socio-economic life of the teeming masses of Rivers people as encapsulated in the campaign promises.
    Mr. Sawntong, who said he was due for retirement on Saturday, this week, assured that NTA will continue to maintain its synergy with the State Government to enable the people of Rivers State benefit maximally from the dividends of democracy.
